About OBIS#

OBIS (Open Blockchain Intelligence Standards) is a community effort to develop open, vendor-neutral specifications for blockchain intelligence. The project is modelled on the IETF and W3C in process, while keeping its organisational form intentionally light.

Status#

OBIS is currently an unincorporated open community project. Incorporation as a non-profit standards organisation is planned and will be undertaken once the early body of work and contributor base warrant it. Until then, the project operates without legal personhood: contributions are made directly to the public specifications under the licenses described on the License page, and the project holds no funds, assets, or contractual obligations.

What OBIS is not#

OBIS is not a certification scheme, an industry lobby, or a vendor consortium. It does not certify implementations, accredit practitioners, or operate a paid membership tier. It does not represent the commercial interests of any vendor or class of vendors.

How OBIS operates#

Drafts are developed in the open on GitHub at github.com/obi-standards. The lifecycle of an OBIS document is specified in OBIS-0001. There is no chartered membership, no application to join, and no fee. Anyone may follow the work, comment on drafts, or contribute.
